10 May Statement from Valley Agriceuticals President Erik Holling on Senate Health Committee Approval of Bill Including PTSD in Conditions Eligible for Medical Cannabis
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 9, 2017
“We applaud the Senate Health Committee for today approving the bipartisan bill enabling New Yorkers suffering from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to have access to medical cannabis. The bill has already passed the Assembly and we join other advocates in hoping it will become law this year.
“The New York State Department of Health has already expanded the conditions eligible for medical cannabis to include chronic pain, a major step forward for making the state’s medical marijuana program stronger for patients.
“Last week, Governor Cuomo said, ‘We are considering a number of possible illnesses that would be added to the eligibility for medical marijuana. So we’re in the midst of that now and we’ll look at the PTSD bill.’ With the support of the Governor and both houses of the Legislature, hopefully veterans suffering from PTSD will soon be eligible for relief from medical cannabis.
“The Legislature, Governor and DOH have been moving forward steadily to make New York’s medical marijuana program stronger and better for patients. Today marks yet another step in that direction.”
